John Hammer’s 35+ years of project management experience include nearly two decades of hands-on construction experience. Driven by a genuine love of building, he is a highly motivated, technically precise team leader who excels in process management, financial analysis, and communication. John has a proven ability to bring together owners, contractors, and subcontractors, building consensus on the right path forward.
John’s colleagues appreciate his honest, straightforward, humble approach to his work, as well as his uniquely active sense of humor. They know they can count on him to identify the next step forward, no matter the issue or decision, and to tell the emperor he has no clothes when a situation calls for it. He joined CFC in 2014.
Professional and Educational Background
Construction is John’s second career. His first career — spanning the 13 years post-college through 2001 — saw John working as a Project and Process Manager for various companies in the high-tech telecom industry. After the events of 9/11, however, John realized he wanted to do something different with his life. As he explains, desiring to go “from ones and zeroes to something much more tactile,” he turned to construction.
John’s first construction job involved working on a low-income rehab. He never looked back. Since 2001, John has gained extensive experience on multifamily construction projects (both new construction and renovation) as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, and Preconstruction Manager. After a CFC employee enthusiastically recommended him, John was enticed to join CFC in 2014.
John holds a BS in Business Administration and Management from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He is ASHE-certified, recognizing his understanding of the complexity of constructing health care facilities.
What John Values Most About Working at CFC
For John, it’s his precon team that rises above the rest. He appreciates the honest, smart, and hard-working people he’s fortunate to call his colleagues. John also values how CFC’s management team stays consistently engaged and in the loop on all processes, promoting transparency throughout the organization.
Beyond Building
Born in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, John moved to Colorado in 1993 following a brief layover in Chicago. He appreciates the state for its mountains and lack of mosquitoes. In his free time, you’ll most often find John training for the biathlon, motorcycling, working on home projects, or spending time with his family.
