Professional and Educational Background
Tyler showed an early interest in architecture as a kid, sketching out his grand visions on grid paper smuggled into school and church. Coupled with his love for the outdoors, this interest drove an initial focus on landscape architecture when he first began his studies at Colorado State University (CSU). But his work experience during college — as an engineering intern at a surface coal mine and a landscape and irrigation installer with a large commercial firm — made him realize that neither engineering nor landscape architecture felt like a fit. Tyler ultimately honed in on preconstruction, earning his BS in Construction Management. As the all-important first step in any building process, precon’s focus on design, feasibility, efficiencies, and economies of scale proved to be an ideal fit for Tyler’s balance of creativity and analytical thinking.
In 2010, Tyler completed an estimating internship at a mid-sized general contractor. He then spent four years learning the subcontracting side of the industry, working as a Project Manager and Lead Estimator for a commercial flooring company. Tyler joined CFC in 2015 as a Preconstruction Estimator, and was promoted to Chief Estimator in 2021. He is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
